If you’re living in Laval or the surrounding areas, chances are you have already eaten at the exciting Elixor restaurant. If not, most likely you’re a lucky Montreal or Laval tourist and Elixor is a recommended stop while visiting Canada’s most well known city of food.

Only 15 minutes from downtown Montreal via autoroute 15, Elixor cannot be missed from the bright red lights that illuminate their name all the way down St. Martin Blvd. Founded in February 2002, Elixor is a well-known, happening and friendly fun spot for everyone. The restaurant is architecturally stunning, getting the sense and feeling of a tropical oasis. “It has that Florida touch” says Jimmy Prontzos, one of the 3 managers of the restaurant who also told us that the clients love to linger because they feel so comfortable in the open airy concept.

The bar, a beautifully sculpted area just off the entrance, serves your favourite appetizers and specialty drinks. Overhead, surrounding the expansive dining room, you can’t help but feel welcomed by the most visually warming murals. The relaxing atmospheres will definitely keeps you focused while perusing through the extensive menu.

Featuring dishes from across the globe, executive chef and owner George Prontzos found a place where he could offer the tastes of all nations underneath one roof. I could feel the heart and soul that went into putting this menu together, where even the fussiest of clients will be delighted with the many choices. Prepared with the freshest ingredients on the market, salad dressings are made from scratch, the meats, poultry and fish are hand picked daily using “Canadian” produce when available, and the desserts, 24 to be exact are baked right on the premises.

The overall service was excellent and our waitress Julie was superb. I was so impressed that I put my appetite in her hands and let her chose my entire meal. The best surprise of the evening was the VIP Fantasy appetizer. Large enough for 4, this platter was a sampler of the most popular appetizers. Crispy Creole Calamari, BBQ, chicken quesadillas, large coconut shrimp and finally my favourite, bite sized fresh avocado with oven roasted red tomatoes, red onions and cilantro, fried in a crisp wrap and served with a side of sweet and sour cashew dipping sauce…they were out of this world!

The next challenge was deciding on my main course. Should I have the fire Roasted Chicken Filet Chop garnished with an array of roasted vegetables, topped with arugula, goat cheese and citrus fresh basil. Or the Cedar Plank Roasted Salmon crusted in ginger and garlic served with garlic-mashed potatoes, asparagus, in a light mango BBQ sauce? Well, luck is the lady tonight! My guest ordered the salmon, so that made my choice easy. Displayed on our table like a pieces of fine art, we enjoyed our meals tremendously along with two fine glasses of the house chardonnay.

With not much room let for dessert, I managed to squeeze in a few bites of the famous Tiramisu Amaretto cheesecake. With over 10 different varieties my choice was perfect, light and creamy with a firm crunchy crust just the way I like it. Topped off with a cup of Lavazza expresso, all I needed was a big fat stogie and my day was made.

The highly recommended brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday from 11am – 2pm. “You’ll never find our eggs cooking on a grill” say Jimmy, they only come one way, the old fashion way and that’s in a fry pan”!

So, to sum up my experience, Elixor can best be described as a journey into an oasis of beautiful food, beautiful service and beautiful people. Way to go “Prontzos Family” you know how to serve it up right!
